Albert John Archer enlisted with 33rd Battalion AIF and was the first
man recruited to the new Infantry Battalion. The first man recruited to the old 33rd
Infantry Militia was Warrant Officer First Class: 1. Charles Edward FIELDHOUSE.
26th November 1917.
Informant: Company Quartermaster Sergeant:1 Albert John ARCHER. We were at Messines on June 7th and
I saw Private: 1276 Hampton WILLIS struck by a shell in the breast and badly wounded and saw him
carried out. I was told in the Battalion that he lived a day and a halfbut did not hear were he was buried. He was about 5 ft
7, fair, 22 years, came from Wandsworth, N.S.W.
