Harold Burton enlisted with the 8th Reinforcements, 33rd Battalion AIF on the 15th of May
1916 and left Sydney on board HMAT A16 "Port Melbourne" on the 16th of July 1916.
Posted to France on 23.1.1918. and posted to the 33rd Battalion on 28.1.1918. Severely Gassed on 17.4.1918. Returned to France on
10.7.1918. To Hospital, Sick on 8.8.1918 and returned to unit on 28.9.1918.On the troopship to
the UK he was charged for " neglect to carry out orders " and whilst in the UK on leave he went
AWOL [ 10.6.1919]. His address on discharge being 6 Grove Road, Bridgend, Wales.
Harold returned to Australia on board the "Bahia Castillo" on the 22rd of June 1920 and was
discharged from the AIF on the 28th of August 1920.

Harold was single 18 yrs old and was a Rubber Worker from Byers Street, Enfield, N.S.W. upon
enlistment. Religion - Methodist. His mother Elizabeth Annie Finnimore resided at 12 Miller St,
Haberfield, Sydney N.S.W. Harold served with the 31st Infantry Battalion prior to WW1. Harold
and Elizabeth Burton were married in 1919 Marriage Cert: 148 Axbridge, England. They were
married by Frederick Curtin (Registrar). Harold's father Thomas died in 1914 and his mother Elizabeth
married John Finnimore in 1917 at Drummoyne, N.S.W. Marriage Cert:671/1917.
