13th August 1918
No:2296, Private Henry CLARKE. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty
during operations South of the SOMME, East of HAMEL on 8th of August 1918. Alone Private CLARKE rushws
a post in AGGROCHE WOOD, killed two of the enemy and captured 3 prisoners. On reaching LONG VALLEY
he assisted in the capture of three Field Guns and 20 prisoners. On another occassion he rushed a
post single handed and brought back 3 prisoners. Throughout the operation he distinguished himself
by his great daring and determination.
