William Huggett Douglas enlisted with A Company 33rd Battalion on the 14th of February
1916 with the rank of Lieutenant and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon" on the 4th
of May 1916.
33rd Battalion AIF. Captain William Huggett DOUGLAS. During the battle of
Messines Ridge from 7th June to June 11th, Captain William Huggett DOUGLAS displayed great
coolness, leadership and initiative. Owing to the enemies Gas Attack
1st May 1918.

At Messines on the 7th June 1917, at 3:10am we hopped over and Private:
173 Thomas John SCHAEFER was killed at one by a gass shell in crossing No Man's Land. He
was buried in Ploegsteert Cemetery. I was an eye-witness. He was a private in A Coy, 1st Platoon.
London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England.
William was single 21 year old Marine Engineer from "Aila" Ferrier Street, Rockdale, NSW
upon enlistment. He served with the 28th Infantry Millitia prior to World War 1.
William served during World War 2. Service number NX100073.
