INFORMATION

Ernest John Harman enlisted with the Australian Army Service corps on the 14th of July 1915 with the rank of Sergeant and was transfered to the 33rd Battalion on the 16th of April 1916 and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and left Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon" on the 4th of May 1916. Ernest disembarked at Albany, Western Australia suffering from Abscessed Throat and re embarked at Fremantle on the 22nd of May for England. He disembarked at Devonport, England on the 9th of July and was marched in the the 9th Infanrty Brigade Training Battalion.

Ernest was Promoted to Lieutenent on the 1st of August and proceeded overseas on the 21st of November 1916. Ernest was Taken on Strength with the 33rd in the field where he remained for the next 6 monthe before he was admitted to the 14th Australian Field Ambulance suffering from a case of Appendicitis and was transfered to the 2nd Australian Casulaty Claearing Station before being admitted to the 14th General Hospital at Boulogne, France.

Ernest was evacuated back to England on board the Hospital Ship "St David" where he recovered before retuning to France on the 30th of July via Southampton. He was Taken on Strength in the field with the 33rd Battalion on the 6th of August 1917. Ernest was granted leave to Paris from the 12of November untill the 16th before returning to the front line. He was again granted a furlo but theis time he was sent back to England on the 18th of March 1918.

Returning to France on the 3rd of April Ernest was sent into action at Villers-Bretonneaux where he was received a Special Mention by Sir Douglas Haig in Dispatches on the 7th of April 1918. Ernest was Wounded in Action on the 26th of May at Villers-Bretonneaux, receiving a Gun-Shot Wound to his Left Forearm and was treated at the 10th australian Field Ambulance before being transfered to the 5th Australian Casualty Clearing Station. Ernest was soon admitted to the Officers General Hospital in France before being evacuated to back to England on the 10th of June.

Ernest returned to Australia on the 24th August 1918 and was discharged 23rd of September 1920 as Medically Unfit

Ernest was a 30 year old Motor Car Importer from "Glen Avon" Kensington Road Summers Hill, N.S.W. upon enlistment.

Samuel and Levina Harman had 4 children,3 boys and 1 girl. Ernest John Harman born 1886 at Cobar, N.S.W. Birth Cert:16406/1886. Doris I Levina Harman born 1898 at Lithgow, N.S.W. Birth Cert:4467/1898. Ronald F Harman born 1903 at Lithgow, N.S.W. Birth Cert:4219/1903. Herbert Dudley Harman died 1968 at Ryde, N.S.W. Death Cert:41854/1968.
