Lindsay Irving enlisted Headquarter Company, 33rd Battalion AIF with the rank of Driver
on the 7th of February 1916 and left Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon" on the 4th of May 1916.
Driver, (Lance Corporal) 1410 Lindsay IRVING, 33rd Battalion AIF. For
conspicous courage and devotion to duty during operations from 29th September to 2nd October
1918 near BONY. Lance Corporal IRVING did exceptionally good work in maintaining liaison
between Battalion Headquarters and the Regimental Transport. On three occasions he visited
Battalion Headquarters and on learning the new location of the Battalion reported to the Transport
Officer and guided the Transport to within 500 yards of the Front Line and thus ensured hot food
and supplies reaching the Battalion each night.
Throughout the operations of August 8th-22nd and 31st, this N.C.O distinguished himself by his
courage, initiative, resources and by his skillful handling of his teams.

Informant; L/Corporal: 1410 Lindsay IRVING, 33rd Battalion, Transport Section.
During the afternoon of October 1st 1918. Captain: Charles John DOIG was
hit by a shell on the head, killing him instantly at BONEY in the front of the HINDENBURG LINE.
He would be buried on the field near where he fell. This information was obtained by hearing the
men's statements at the unit. I think Lieutenant Colonel: Leslie James
MORSHEAD 33rd Battalion, who was at Tidworth and was in the stunt may be able to give more
informtion.

Lindsay returned to Australia on the 3rd of October 1919 on board the "Port Denison" and was
discharged from the A.I.F on the 16th of January 1920.
Lindsay was a single 21 year old Salesman from 26 Bayswater Road, Darlinghust, N.S.W. upon enlistment.
His fater James lied at "Buena Vista" Fitzharding Street, Wagga Wagga. Lindsay served with the 25th
Infantry Militia prior to World War 1. His parents James and Mary Irving were married in
1891 at wagga Wagga, N.S.W. Marriage Cert:7776/1891 and had 5 children. Beryl Irving Born
