Rupert Charles Jones enlisted in the AIF on the 15th of September 1915 and was transfered to C company,
33rd Battalion in January 1916 and was an original member of the Battalion. He left Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon"
on the 4th of May 1916. Rupert was Company Sergeant Major and was promoted to Lieutenant in France and acted as Adjudant.

yet concerning Captain: Charles Henry LINKLATER but will be glad to forward it to you
immediatley any tidings reach us. Note: Captain LINKLATER'S name appears in the German Death List. 7.8.1917.
Rupert was Wounded in Action when he was Gassed at
Villers-Bretonneux, France on the 21st of April 1918 and died from Gas Poisoning on
the 3rd of May 1918.
As Adjutant, Lieutenant Rupert Charles JONES has distinguished himself by his
devotion to duty, extreme care, marked thoughtfulness, efficient administration and organisation,
and by his courage and resourcefulness in action and in the line. He has at all times displayed
energy and initiative and worked exceedingly hard and well. His efforts have largely helped
towards the success and efficiency of the Battalion. He has the confidence and esteem of the whole
Battalion.
