INFORMATION

William Albert Kaylock enlisted with the 9th Reinforcements, 56th Battalion AIF at Dubbo, N.S.W. on the 13th of November 1916 and left Sydney on board HMAT A68 "Anchises" on the 24th of January 1917 and disembarked at Devonpor, England on the 27th of March 1917 and was marched to the 14th Training Battalion at CODFORD.

William proceeded overseas for France via Southampton on the 23rd of January 1918 and was Taken on in Strength to reinforce the 36th Battalion on the 28th of January where he remained until the 36th Battalion was disbanded on the 30th of April 1918.

36th Battalion's last Parade before being disbanded. 30th April 1918.

William was then transfered to reinforce the 33rd Battalion and served in France until the war ended before he was attatched to Administration Headquarters in France on the 18th of January 1919. After returning to England, William married Kathleen Douglas on the 19th of April 1919 by the Vicar of the St-Pauls Church W H Workman at Porthmouth Hants, England. Kathleen lived at 14 King Street, Southsea whilst William was living at 15 Reginald Street, Eastney.

Informant; Private: 2938 Francis James LLOYD D Company 33rd Battalion AIF states that they both belonged to D Company of which Captain: Charles John DOIG. MC was the Commanding Officer. On 1/10/18 the Battalion was in action at BONNEY on the HINDENBURG LINE. They hopped over at 3:00pm and an hour later the Captain was killed outright by a shell fragment while taking cover under a bank, he was hit in the head. Informant was about 3 yards away and saw the Captain Killed. He was buried near BONNEY, but Informant was not present but was given the details by one of his mate Private: 3420 William Albert KAYLOCK who helped bury the Captain. According to informant Captain DOIG was a very popular Officer indeed.

William and Kathleen left England on board the "Berrima" on the 6th of September 1919 and returned to Australia on the 8th of November 1919. William was discharged on the 12th of January 1920, Discharge Cert:251293.

Family Information

William was a single 22 year old Carpenter from Albury, N.S.W. upon enlistment. His sister Edith Mary was his next of kin who lived at Macauley Street, Albury. William married Kathleen Douglas whilst on active service in England. His parents William and Susan Kaylock were married in 1883 at Albury, N.S.W. Marriage Cert:3290/1883 and had 9 children. Edith M Kaylock born 1884 at Albury, N.S.W. Birth Cert:12059/1884. Catherine Ellen Kaylock born 1886 at Albury, N.S.W. Birth Cert:13274/1886 and died in 1964 at Auburn, N.S.W. Death Cert:16068/1940. Laura E B Kaylock born 1888 at Albury, N.S.W. Birth Cert:13947/1888. Margaret O Kaylock born 1890 at Albury, N.S.W. Birth Cert:3942/1890. William Albert Kaylock born 1894 at Albury, N.S.W. 1940 (4 Jun) – aged 46; Enlisted as a Private in Caulfield VIC.

Discharged – 19 Sep 1940 as in 2/9 Field Ambulance. DOB: 10th March 1894.

1940 (20 Sep) – aged 46; Enlisted as a Private in Royal Park VIC.

Discharged – 27 Aug 1943 as in 4 Army TPS. DOB: 10th March 1894.
