INFORMATION

Edward John Lockyer enlisted with the 33rd Battalion pre World War 1. Edward was the third man to enlist with the battalion his service number was 3. Edward was presented with the Colonial Auxillary Forces Long Service Medal on the 7th of September 1922. He received his long service medal with Warrant Officer 1st class: 1 Charles Edward Fieldhouse. 33rd Battalion and Sergeant: 2 A Gendle 33rd Battalion all were members of the 33rd Battalion, 2nd Military District. The Colonial Auxillary Forces Medal was instituted by Queen Victoria for service in the colonies. The medal was issue to volunteer forces and only 1199 medals were issued to Australians. The issue of this medal ceased during the reign of King George the 5th. Edwards Colonial Auxillary Long Servce Medal was acquired in 2003 from Queensland, Australia and is now in the collection.
