INFORMATION

Sidney Raymond NELSON enlisted with C company, 33rd Battalion at Inverell on the 9th of December 1915 and was an original member of the Battalion and left Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon" on the 4th of May 1916

Diary of Private: 885 Frederick Richard TRIBE. C company Signaller 33rd Battalion AIF.

3rd October 1917.

Informant; Sergeant: 842 Sidney Raymond NELSON. I saw Private: 882 George Thomas TAYLOR dead at Messines, he had been killed by concussion. I did not see the actual casualty, but saw himsoon after. We held the ground, and he was buried near the place of the casualty but I did not see the grave and I cannot refer to anyone for details.

Sidney returned to Australia on the 20th of December 1917.

Family Information

Sidney was a single 24 year old Share Farmer from Kurragong, New South Wales upon enlistment, and was a member of the Myall Creek Rifle Club. His father Josiah Nelson was his next of kin who lived at Colkirk, Fakenham, Norfolk, England. After his marriage to Kate in 1921 they moved and lived at 1 Seaview Avenue, Harbord, N.S.W. His medals were issued to him on the 5th of April 1962.
