The 34th was not, as Captain: Henry Vince CARR 35th Battalion, believed, on the
first objective. The Commander of the line, Captain: John William RICHARDSON
34th Battalion, on hearing of the extreme weakness of the force at the second
objective,had reinforced it. He and his only remaining officer's
Lieutenant: James Clement BURGESS Lieutenant: Bruce Gray MCKENZIE
and Lieutenant: John Abbott LONGWORTH had all been
Killed in Action while organising on the first objective, and
the first objective now lay empty.

John is remembered with honour and is commemerated in perpetuity by the
Commonweath War Graves Commission at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Belgium.
John was a Tanner from Longueville, New South Wales. He lived with his parents at Northwood Road.
