Harry Shatwell enlisted with C Company, 33rd Battalion on the 12th of January 1916 and
was an original member of the Battalion, and left Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon on the 4th
of May 1916 with the rank of Lance Corporal.
2nd February 1918
Sergeant: 867 Harry SHATWELL,33rd Battalion AIF. has displayed exceptional
courage and ability as Scout Sergeant, and his work has been of the greatest value to the Battalion.
He has proved himself a splendid leader, and has carried out most daring reconnaissances with
marked success. At all times his work with the Scouts has been of exceptional merit, and his
coolness, initiative, courage and resources, displayed under the most trying conditions, have been
an inspiration to the whole Battalion. Major General: John Monash.

Harry was a single 26 year old Farm Labourer from Kaloona via Inverell, N.S.W upon enlistment. Harry
enlisted during World War 2. Service number: N100230.
