James William Shreeve enlisted with Headquarter Section 33rd Battalion AIF with the rank of Lieutenant on the 23rd of February 1916
and was an original member of the Battalion and embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A74 "Marathon" on the 4th May 1916.
James desembarked at Devonport, England on the 9th of September and was marched to the 9th Training Battalion at the Durrington Army Camp at
Lark Hill. He was promoted to the rank of Captain on the 1st of October and proceeded overseas for France vis southampton on the 21st of
November 1916.

Informant; Captain: James William SHREEVE. I assisted at the Burial of these men at the Cemetery at Toronto
Cut Ploegsteert Wood on dates between 7th and 10th June last. The map reference to the exact position of the cemetery is:- 28 S.W. Addition

James returned to Australia on the 5th of January 1919 to his wife Voilet and his 2 children.
James was a 36 year old married Soldier from 39 Burton Street, Randwick, N.S.W. upon enlistment from Instructional Staff. James enlisted on the 8th of
January 1902 as a 22 year old Farmer to serve in the Boer War, Service Number: 663. His father then lived at 30 Banks Street, Ascot Vale, Victoria.
