He left Sydney on board HMAT A24 "Benalla" on the 1st of May 1916

Harold was a single 20 year old Clerk from "Dalwood", 13 Augusta Street, Manly, New South Wales upon enlistment.

Meanwhile, however, the German artillery was annihialating some parts of their line. All leaders of Carr's three posts were out of action. Lieutenant: J F Adams was Killed in Action and Lieutenant: Norman Beade D'Arcy MC and Lieutenant: Harold Sydney Wyndham were wounded.
